ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Dr Ala Farah.
I’m a GP with a special interest in women’s hormonal and metabolic health, and I’m passionate about helping women understand their bodies in a way that feels clear, practical, and empowering.
MY STORY
MY STORY
my story
My approach to medicine has been shaped not only by training and clinical experience, but also by my own health journey.
Experiencing hormonal challenges myself gave me a deeper understanding of how overwhelming it can feel when symptoms affect your energy, confidence, and sense of balance. It reinforced the importance of creating a safe, welcoming space - one where women feel truly heard and supported.
Professional Background
-
Originally from Sudan and raised in Dubai, I moved to New Zealand in 2009 and have proudly called Waikato home since 2012.
-
After beginning my career in hospital medicine, I transitioned into general practice, where I discovered the value of patient-centred care that looks beyond symptoms to understand the whole person.
-
I hold postgraduate training in:
Women’s health
Obesity medicine
Lifestyle medicine
Public health
Trauma-informed care
And continue to build on my knowledge through ongoing professional education.
In consultations, you’ll often hear me ask:
“What brings you joy?”
Because health isn’t only about numbers or lab results - it’s about building a life that feels balanced and sustainable.
My surname, Farah, means joy in Arabic, and that idea of restoring joy and connection to health sits at the heart of how I practice medicine.
Beyond Medicine
Outside of medicine, I’m a wife, a mother to three lively boys, and someone who deeply values community, learning, and meaningful conversations around health and wellbeing.
